The efficient operation of a plant depends on having proper plant-wide systems integration. From balance of plant (e.g. Water, Air, Gas, Electric & Steam – WAGES) through to the vendor supplied equipment & process flows, operational excellence depends on all systems being properly integrated. Our goal at Cogent is to work closely with clients during the definition and design phases of a project to “knock down silos” and to provide a fully integrated operation with complete visibility into the system performance.
> Process Areas
Far too often process equipment is viewed within a “silo” during the procurement phase without proper attention being paid to the WAGES requirements or how it integrates with upstream and downstream elements (i.e. Electrically, mechanically, pneumatically, hydraulically etc.). Working closely with Cogent engineers during the definition and design phases of a project, ensures that battery limits are well defined and gaps are addressed prior to delivery of equipment and potentally high cost commissioning phase retrofits.
> Balance of Plant (BOP)
Often over looked, the BOP systems provide the core infrastructure to supply the necessary resources (i.e. WAGES) and operational insight (i.e. Cameras, Fire Alarming, Power Systems Monitoring) into the entire operations. Through Cogent’s experience and expertise, clients benefit from knowing that all systems are properly integrated within the core infrastructure and that any gaps are addressed prior to startup.
> Unified Numbering System
Ensuring numbering systems align with new and existing plant equipment and drawings is critical to reliably and efficiently troubleshooting issues and managing warehouse stocks. Cogent works closely with vendors and clients to develop standards where required or adopting client existing standards to ensure consistency throughout designs.
> System Health Monitoring
The monitoring and diagnostics of your Balance of Plant (BOP) systems such as your power system, IT System, compressed air, HVAC, building fire alarm systems and other equipment health can improve your overall operational performance. Cogent’s health monitoring can trigger alarms for system operators when a problem occurs and identify hidden equipment performance issues. Our power monitoring solutions empower your personnel to reduce response time and more effectively manage issues.
> Process Fire Protection
Handling wood fiber requires a comprehensive approach to sparks/fire detection, suppression, explosion protection and notification. These systems need to be properly specified and integrated to ensure equipment and fire protection systems work reliably and take automated action when required. Cogent offers extensive design experience, integrating systems to ensure clients receive a safe and reliable solution.
